About Us

Richard Evans is 54 years old, and admits to having been married for more than 30 years and has 2 grown up sons.

He first visited India in 2000, falling in love with the country and its people, but also raising money for Weston Hospicecare. When younger, Richard motorcycled around Europe, and more recently in India from Goa to Chennai, and through Ladakh on the highest motorable road in the world.

Richard works as an Independent Financial Advisor in a small family-owned business, but due to the current economic climate he freely admits he would rather be out motorcycling.

In memory of his mother who died 10 years ago, and his longtime personal assistant and secretary Margaret Copp who died 12 months ago, he is carrying out his ambition to ride an old motorcycle from Weston Super Mare to Delhi to raise money for Weston HospicecareAs he anticipates the trip could take up to 10 weeks, he is grateful for the support of his long suffering wife, Tricia, and also work colleagues and even fellow professionals, all of whom will ensure that his clients will continue to receive the high level of service they are used to whilst he is away.

Likes: Comfortable campsites

Dislikes: Listening to Simon snore away in the next tent while he is awake, cold and uncomfortable

Most likely to say: "I'm a financial adviser"

L-R: Richard after riding the world's highest motorable road, with an equally colourful friend in Goa (Holi festival), and on a dirty, dusty bike day in India.

Simon Chegwyn is 37 years old and has been riding motorbikes for as long as he can remember, both professionally and personally.

He was introduced to Richard by an ex-colleague as Richard's companion on his second Indian motorcycling trip was not able to make it. Since then he has ridden thousands of miles around India, and is lucky enough to have ridden in many countries over the years.

On his third visit to India, he was lucky enough to meet the staff at Asha and the residents of the slums in which Asha works. Since then, the relationship has grown and Simon is a regular volunteer, involved mainly in maintenance and repair work. His woeful Hindi has not been a barrier to making friends within the charity and the local community, so Simon was only too happy to join forces with Richard in planning this trip to Delhi. They are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Asha and Weston Hospicecare along the way.

Likes: Motorbikes, more motorbikes and cheap (ideally free) camping

Dislikes: Making plans, and talking about work

Most likely to say: "Let's have a beer"

L-R: Simon enjoying a Kingfisher, having made it to the highest motorable road, and on the banks of the Ganges.
